The Art of Being Human
The Art of Being Human is a slow-paced, unwinding narrative that follows an optimistic young man, on his daily journey to the beach. On one odd occasion, he meets a girl at the shoreline who can't bring herself to swim in the ocean. He then seeks to help her overcome her anxiety and appreciate each moment in life through small acts of kindness each day.

I was drawn to this production as the story was full of emotion and loved how the narration was to be shown through the visual arrangements due to the minimal dialogue in the script.
I captured a candid and authentic feel through my choice of articulating handheld shots during the tenderhearted moments of the film and also through the focus of incorporating cutaway shots of the ocean to enhance the feelings of tranquility and restfulness that the characters experience.
The collaborative effort with my editor in relation to the colour grading and pacing is what ties the film all together giving its warm, homely and cinematic feel.
Production Behind The Scenes

A note from the Director:
Bella is a dedicated and visionary cinematographer. During all stages of production of she was able to visualise the script and bring it to life through a blend of practicality and creativity. In the lead up to the shoot she was organised and communicative which allowed us to feel prepared and cohesive as a unit. While she had pre-determined shots, she was also willing to be flexible when shots needed to be changed or timings were thrown off. Despite the stressful restraints of time and working against the setting sun, she thrived under pressure and created beautiful shots that were both refined and powerful. She continued to be involved in post-production and showed a genuine love and dedication to the film. Her capacity to listen and adapt while still retaining her own vision should be commended, and the significant weight of her contribution to the film cannot be overstated.
